Venetian Blinds have well and truly earned their place in history.

These ingeniously devised window blinds have been popular since the middle of the 1700s when the first patents were registered for these suspended-slat blinds.

Angling the horizontal slats to allow just the right amount of light in, has helped create some classic photographs and iconic movie scenes. But it’s not only the light that Venetian blinds give you control over, they also give you privacy when you need it.

    High Levels Of Success

The Empire State Building, and Radio City in the Rockefeller Center, both in New York, went with Venetian blinds. Testament to the durable nature of the Venetian mechanisms, no amount of twiddling the blinds by all those office types caused ‘buyer remorse’. Sales of Venetian blinds remain strong all over the world.

The horizontal slats are made from timber, metal and plastic and they are suspended by tapes and cords.

The only significant user advice needed when it comes to their easy operation, is to keep very young children away from the cords. A small child could come to grief if they were to become entangled. At Bay Blinds & Doors, our installations are done with the utmost care and consideration. We make sure that all the products we supply and fit are installed with safety in mind.

    If It Ain't Broke…

The design of Venetian blinds has remained pretty much the same over the years. There has been no real call to reinvent the wheel.

The innovations have come in the way of cleaning wands for the slats, which inevitably gather dust over time.

One other stroke of genius has emerged, and that is the insertion of the Venetian blind between the two layers of double-glazing. Genius? No fouling of the mechanism and no dust to clean. You be the judge!

    Perfect Fit

Many of our customers at Bay Blinds & Doors find Venetians a perfect fit. We can install them to small or large windows, neatly finished above with a tidy pelmet across the width.

Our Venetians are available in timber, or timber look. The timber-look Venetian has high moisture tolerance, so it’s ideal for wet areas, such as your bathrooms.

The hardiest of them will be our aluminium Venetian blinds. Whichever material you choose for your Venetian blinds—timber, aluminium or synthetic timber-look—you can't lose. The beauty and ease of use remains.

  • Many Central Coast homeowners prefer blinds to any other form of window covering.

The harsh NSW sunshine can be damaging to people and materials, while nobody wants to keep it out altogether. Curtains are considered too heavy, and can’t be very well adjusted.

Which leaves the choice of two popular blind types; Venetian and roller.

These blinds sometimes have slightly different names, but their designs represent two basic types. Each has its merits, and neither is right or wrong for any given home.

As suppliers ofblinds Central Coast homeowners love, we appreciate what drives people’s choices.

    Practical Choice

Practicality is bound to be an important factor when choosing which type of blinds to buy. A busy home owner or head of family hasn’t got the time for blinds not to do their job properly.

If the sun’s out, you want them down, just like that. Some people prefer roller blinds because of their single action, up or down function.

Venetian blinds, on the other hand, need slightly more thought. Their advantage is that they offer more degrees of privacy.

Venetian blinds also have a reputation of being dust gatherers. As they consist of a lot of horizontal slats, dust has more chance to settle. This was thought especially true with wooden blinds.

Today, however, Venetian blinds come in other materials, which don’t gather dust and are easier to clean.

Roller blinds, in the meantime, only have one surface. These days, even this can be boxed in at the top to avoid dust altogether.

The rollerblinds Central Coast people buy have also developed in terms of the materials they’re made of.

They used to be pretty much limited to canvas or fabric. Today’s rollers come in a number of variations.

Some keep out the sun altogether, while others allow you to see out without others seeing in. For many, however, nothing beats the elegance of Venetian type adjustable, horizontal slats.

    Finer Details

The issue of cost will also affect which type of blinds are best. Traditionally, Venetian type blinds were more expensive, as they cost more to make.

Timber slats had to be sourced, and each blind took up quite a lot of labour to manufacture.

Roller blinds, meanwhile, were much less labour and material intensive. With today’s convergence of both, however, this difference in cost is not so marked.

People with young families may also be concerned by safety issues. Little hands getting trapped in cords or working parts used to be a worry, especially for Venetian blind owners. Today, these blinds come with wand control, which is itself height adjustable. This technology is also available for roller blinds, however.
