A model of elegance today, Roman Blinds were born of necessity more than 2,000 years ago. Until the advent of Roman Blinds, nothing stopped the dust pouring through windows from chariots trotted past on the Roman roads.
Rome’s residents began with damp cloths hung over their windows to prevent dust and heat entering their homes. House-proud Romans, of course, soon turned their damp cloth solution into something more impressive, using colour, patterns, and more stylish fabric.
Drawstring operation eventually evolved to allow these permanent blinds to be lowered and raised more quickly, giving users easy control over the amount of light and air allowed into their homes.
A testament to the elegant simplicity of their style and functionality, 2000 years later, the basic design of the Roman Blind has barely changed.
